Rock n Roll Lullabies.

kids, dogs, and rock n' roll

My piglets are 5 months old today…

I know! I know! I am committed(ish) to BLW, but I got kind of excited and jumped the gun yesterday. I blame lack of sleep. Or the delicious strawberry mint (thought about the mint too late) margarita that I had earlier in the afternoon. We came up with a fun way to meet in the middle though! We smeared the baby food goop (which was delicious by the way) onto their hands and let them work it out.

My sweet Patience managed to get a tiny bit of food in her mouth, and was most definitely not a fan. It was still fun to watch her smear the stuff around and play though. I wasn’t too surprised by her reaction since she shows pretty much zero interest in food and barely tolerates the bottle. I fear that she expects to be on the boob forever.

Today at the breast feeding clinic I weighed her and she is around 13lb 9oz (she was wearing her onsie and a diaper), so she is small but growing. She is now rolling each way with ease all the time, and is getting ready to start trying to crawl. She is my diva baby that makes us work for smiles, and hardly ever giggles. Let me tell you though, when you get a smile and a giggle out of that one it makes you feel like you deserve your own HBO comedy special. Patience is also our yeller. She lets you know what she wants and when she wants 100% of your attention and then lets you know when she is done with you! She definitely cries less out of the two of them , but yells more. I also think that she may be an evil genius.

Cash. Oh my little oinker Cash. He picked up on getting that food into his mouth pretty quickly and enjoyed it much much more than his sister did. Not too surprising really, he loves the boob, he loves bottles, and he is always trying to stick his hands in my food. Baby boy loves food, and he ain’t picky (gets it from mama). Even with his enthusiastic response I decided to limit his first experience with food to a small amount. He probably got about a tablespoon of goop in his mouth all together.

This morning he weighed in at about 15lb 4oz (also was wearing a onsie and a diaper). It is hard to believe that he was a 6lb “Baby B” 5 months ago! Little dude has completely flown by his big sister in the weight department! He still has no interest in rolling or spending time on his tummy at all. What he has started doing is reaching for his feet and doing these little “crunches”. I showed my mom one day and she said that it looks like he is trying to sit up, which is exciting since I was becoming convinced that he is never going to move and just expect me to carry him around until he is 18. Cash hands out free smiles to everyone. He also bats his lashes at anyone with boobs. He is a sensitive boy that is a little more emotional than his sister, shifting from happy and laughing to heartbreaking cries from one second to the next.

It is amazing to see how different they are, without (in my opinion) having been influenced one way or the other. They are only 5 months but I can already imagine them going through life holding hands while Cash dives in head first with Patience pulling him back so she can investigate and declare it a good idea.

Now excuse me while I close the door to my office and sob.
